Paul was a poor boy living on the streets. Soon, he finds out that he is the twin brother to the future king of their kingdom. A law was put in place, regarding twins, for the noble. The law states that the 2nd born son should be killed to protect their lands and people from a dispute that could happen if the two boys were to fight over the inheritance. In stead of being killed, his mother was tricked into thinking he was. He was given to a woman who had just lost her son. She cared for him till he was five and then he was made to leave.
I gave this story 3 stars. I have done a read for review recently for this same author and enjoyed her imagination that is brought out and put into her books. I love how the poor boy is thrown into luxury. The story itself was wonderful. However its execution was not. While reading the introduction on this book I became hooked. I was really looking forward to reading it and this is why I signed up for the R4R. The author did a wonderful job describing different situations and scenes. I could picture all that was written pretty well. I definitely enjoyed that part of the book. I just felt that the problems went on and on. She was building up the story for an awesome finale, however, it fell short. She didn't just work on one problem and expand it and make it better. She introduced several different problems, and because of that I do not believe she was able to fully develop each. Instead of my interests soaring, they began to rise and then traveled on a plateau of sorts.
All the characters were well written in my opinion. I enjoyed reading about them. There is a small surprise close to the middle of the book, and I found that I really liked it. The main characters were around the age of fifteen years old. The author introduced some romance into the mix. However, I didn't like it. I felt it wasn't necessary for this book. Having so much going on already, this just added more. I became over whelmed with problems and found myself just wanting it to end. There was just too much going on for this one book, that I found myself distracted a little. I wasn't able to think and comprehend on one problem at a time. As soon as one was over another one began. I didn't find anything in the book humorous, just problem after problem after problem.
